Travel nurse housing in Manhattan, for the length of a contract

A 13-week assignment in New York deserves better than a hotel room or a stranger’s spare bedroom. Chelsea Home is our own furnished one-bedroom in Chelsea, let by the month and booked directly with us, the owners. It sleeps two, the trains are a very short walk, and the nearest hospital is eleven minutes on foot.

The commute

The A, C and 1 trains are a very short walk from the door, which puts most of Manhattan’s big hospitals twenty to thirty-six minutes away by subway: Mount Sinai West in twenty, NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan in eighteen, Bellevue in twenty-six, NYU Langone in twenty-nine, and the East Side campuses of Lenox Hill, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill Cornell and the Hospital for Special Surgery in the low thirties. Lenox Health Greenwich Village is an eleven-minute walk, no train needed.

The table above is measured door to door on a weekday. A night shift will be quicker on the way in and slower on the way home, and a subway that runs all night is the reason many nurses choose Chelsea over somewhere cheaper further out.

What furnished means for thirteen weeks

Everything is already here. A king bed in the bedroom, a chef’s kitchen with a Wolf oven, a new refrigerator, a dishwasher and an espresso machine, and a dining table that expands to seat six if colleagues come over. The building has laundry, and gym access is free. WiFi is 1 gigabit, and there are two workspaces with a large monitor and a printer for the paperwork every contract seems to generate.

This is our own apartment, not a unit fitted out for turnover. The one thing that is not yours is a single small closet we keep for ourselves.

Coming home after a shift

The apartment is a place to switch off. Lights, air conditioning and shades answer to your voice, so the room can go dark and cool without getting up. There is a smart television, a sound system and a record player for the evenings, and a garden patio with a grill for the days off. Chelsea Market is a five-minute walk for groceries, and the High Line is right there for a run before or after work.

Booking direct, and the calendar

You book on the Chelsea Home page on this site, directly with us. It is the same calendar as our Airbnb listing, so the availability is identical, but booking here means you are not paying Airbnb’s guest service fee on a three-month stay. Rates for your dates show in the calendar before you commit. If your assignment gets extended, ask early and we will do what we can with the calendar.

Tell us your assignment dates when you enquire. Check-in and check-out times, the address and how to get into the building are in your booking confirmation and the house manual we send before you arrive.

Good to know before you ask

Stays are a minimum of 28 nights, which suits a 13-week contract. Dogs are accepted under the same policy as our Airbnb listing, and because dogs have stayed we cannot guarantee the apartment is entirely free of dog hair. One small closet is off-limits. The apartment sleeps two; it is not offered as a room in a shared home.

Questions people ask before a longer stay

Does the apartment work for a 13-week assignment?
Yes. The minimum stay is 28 nights and the apartment is let by the month, so a 13-week contract is the kind of stay it is set up for. Tell us your assignment dates when you enquire, and ask early if an extension looks likely.
How many people can stay?
Two. It is a one-bedroom with a king bed, and you have the whole apartment to yourselves except one small closet. It is never shared with other guests.
Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are accepted under the same policy as our Airbnb listing. Because dogs have stayed, we cannot guarantee the apartment is entirely free of dog hair.
How long is the commute to the hospitals?
The A, C and 1 trains are a very short walk away. Lenox Health Greenwich Village is an eleven-minute walk; Mount Sinai West is about twenty minutes by subway, NYU Langone and Bellevue under thirty, and the East Side hospitals in the low thirties. The table on this page has each one, measured door to door on a weekday.
What are check-in and check-out times?
The exact times, the address and how to get into the building are in your booking confirmation and the house manual we send before you arrive.
Why book here rather than on Airbnb?
It is the same apartment and the same calendar, but booking on this site is booking directly with the owners, and you do not pay Airbnb’s guest service fee, which on a three-month stay is a meaningful amount.
